SACRED TATTOOING

People tell me all the time, they have thought long and hard, often years about their tattoo designs they envision wearing. Then it comes to the moment of actually creating the piece in the flesh. Often, in a few short hours the tattoo is complete, and that person is changed permanently  forever. I believe tattoos are one of the most powerful tools of transformation, which is why it has endured for centuries.
I am certain, that the first tattooists were shaman. Making marks of protection, calling for favor from the Gods and spirit realms, and designating individual and clan social ranking  within  the tribe. There are many more meanings that we’ll never know. In our modern culture we are overstimulated with information. The tattoo and the process of being tattooed helps us remember exactly what is the most important to us. Our stressed out, fast paced culture is searching for something. Maybe this is why tattoos are at their most popular. Trends come and go, but if you’re paying attention, the tattoo speaks to a deeper part of the spirit, together, with clear intention, I can help you bring the spirit of it to life.
It is my great gift to have the vision to take your idea and create a permanent talisman to remember for life. The body’s intuition usually asks for placement in an area where energy flow needs stimulation. It is exactly the same as working with acupressure and acupuncture meridians.

What is the cost of a Sacred Tattoo?
A Sacred Tattoo session is $50 in addition to the cost of the tattoo. I charge either by the piece for one session tattoos, or multiple session work for large pieces is $125/hour
How long does it take? Usually 20-30 minutes in addition to the tattoo.

What is a Sacred Tattoo?
I believe every tattoo is sacred, and important because it instantly changes you physically forever. The energy of wearing it endures for life. That’s why it’s so important to make good choices about the story you want to tell with your art. Equally important is choosing the best artisans who have talent, vision and professional ethics. Sacred really comes to if you believe it to be, it is so. Of course this is emphasized by having it done in a sacred manner,by an artist who holds that intention with you.

What is the Sacred Tattoo process?
What is different about the sacred tattoo session than a “regular” session, is that we take extra time to create ceremony and set intention, to anchor the energy of the tattoo.

The consultation:
We have a consultation before the day of the tattoo session to talk about “what is your intention for the piece? For large work, we usually meet in person so I can map out the body area for the drawing. For smaller work we can do our consulting, transmit reference materials, pick calendar days for the appointment, review the sacred tattoo worksheet (following) via email.

What to bring:
Reference materials, questionnaire (for sacred tattoo) money for artwork and $50 deposit towards the session - cash, check or paid through paypal. No credit cards accepted at studio/use paypal to pay by credit card. Click here for Paypal Payment.

Create an altar

Directly before the tattoo session, you have an opportunity to create an altar in the studio. You are welcome to bring any items with you which you feel will connect the sacred to you experience. For example, a photo of a loved one, a feather, a crystal, a statue of Mother Mary, flowers  etc.. I have many objects, and inspiration cards  inclusive of many spiritual traditions for your use, as well as candles and incense. Making an altar is a creative act of mindfulness that engages the brain and begins to open you up to an experience beyond everyday thinking. This actually creates a new pathway in your brain for positive growth, called a “neural net”.

Purification with sage.
This clears your energy fields, and the chakras of any residual debris/cloudiness/negativity or confusion. This is purification is symbolic of rebirth, entering the next stage clear, empty, and receptive . Sage brings us more present in the physical, and opens the gateways to the higher chakras.

Annointing with oil.
Since ancient times Kings and Queens were “annointed” to consecrate their connection with the divine to rule. Back then, oils were very costly to obtain, and difficult to produce, limiting their use to the wealthy few. Today, they are easily available from all over the world, and we get to enjoy this ritual that connects us vibrationally to the earth, and  the wisdom of the plants the oils are from.  This application of a small drop of sacred oil on your crown 3rd eye and heart, instantaneously opens and unifies these energy centers. Clients have told me they experience a feeling of “holiness” and peace. Definitely a good place to begin a tattoo.

Creating sacred space: Prayer and invocation.
Sacred space is an energetic container of protection which is fundamental and to all the healing work I do. From above my head, I draw down around us a luminous bubble of light pulsing with glittery sparks of many different colors. It is fluid, stretchy, and durable.  Sacred space amplifies and feeds the light bodies of the two involved in the process. Sacred space is a container for the divine to work through us in. Luminous healers, beings of light, angels, ascended masters, are attracted to and work with us in this space. Miraculous things happen in sacred space. Darkness or negativity of any type cannot exist here. Healing happens in many ways, but in a tattoo, I most often see the puncturing of the skin releases dense energies that look like pepper, or wispy blackish smoke. In sacred space it is combusted, like a match head igniting, filling our bubble with more light which is then safe to reabsorb into our energy bodies. You can mindfully walk outside of it to use the bathroom, and mindfully step back in when you return. It is safe to have others in the room included, as long as you feel they’re supporting your process. Due to limited space, in the studio you can have up to 2 supporters. As well, you can invite loved ones in spirit. All it takes is a sincere loving thought, and it is so. “Where thought goes, energy flows”

Invocation and prayer
There is great power in the spoken word. At this point, I call in the Divine Mother, Great Spirit, Angels and the lineage of ancestors related to tattooing, and healing. Then you have an opportunity to do the same. Call on the names of the Divine as you feel it most strongly in your heart. Again, I honor all traditions, as expressions of universal truth which distill basically to One Love. Offer you prayers and speak aloud the intention(s) you want to manifest through your tattoo.

Music
I have playlists of sacred music, but I welcome you to plug in your playlist as well. Preparing a playlist for your tattoo is another ritual that creates more ”neural nets”. This projecting your desires into the future for our session. Music, though the sense of hearing involves more of your energy into the process. All preparation you do ahead of time will enhance your session
